Riva and Yogin's wedding was both.

Set across Bengaluru and Kerala, their celebration brought together three distinct cultures—Punjabi Sikh, Malayali and South Indian—through three ceremonies that honoured each tradition without compromise. While every celebration had its own identity, their North Indian wedding at Taj Bekal Resort & Spa became one of the most unforgettable moments of the weekend, with Kerala's backwaters providing a breathtaking setting for a celebration that was both intimate and spectacular.

At 1Plus1 Studio, we've photographed weddings across India and around the world, but Riva and Yogin's wedding reminded us that the most memorable celebrations aren't defined by scale—they're defined by intention.

From Office Colleagues to Life Partners

Riva Neel and Yogin Shetty first met as colleagues at a software company in Bengaluru. What started as everyday conversations over work gradually grew into a relationship built on friendship, trust and countless shared moments.

As they began planning their wedding, they realised it would naturally be unlike most.Riva grew up embracing two cultures, with a Punjabi Sikh father and a Malayali mother. Yogin came from a traditional South Indian family where rituals had been passed down through generations.

Rather than combining everything into a single ceremony, they decided to celebrate each tradition in its entirety. Their wedding would unfold across three ceremonies, allowing both families to experience every ritual the way it was meant to be celebrated.It was a decision that shaped one of the most thoughtfully curated weddings we've had the privilege of documenting.

A Weekend That Celebrated Three Distinct Traditions

The celebrations began with vibrant pre-wedding festivities where every event had its own personality.

Yogin's Haldi embraced earthy Kerala aesthetics, with lush green backdrops, cascading marigolds and glowing brass kuthuvilakku lamps creating an intimate atmosphere. The Mehendi shifted into a brighter celebration beneath colourful florals, where Riva wore a mustard ensemble by Jayanti Reddy while Yogin complemented her in a soft blush-pink kurta.

By evening, the Sangeet transformed into an elegant celebration filled with deep red velvet, champagne towers, live performances and a dance floor where two families quickly became one.

Each event felt visually different, yet emotionally connected.

A Traditional South Indian Muhurtham

The wedding ceremonies began with a traditional South Indian Muhurtham that beautifully reflected Yogin's heritage.

His arrival was accompanied by the rhythmic beats of the chenda melam as friends and family welcomed him dressed in classic mundus. The venue was adorned with banana leaves, fragrant jasmine and glowing kuthuvilakku lamps, creating an atmosphere rooted in Kerala's timeless traditions.

Riva entered beneath a traditional phoolon ki chaadar wearing a jewel-toned purple Kanjivaram saree from Angadi. Paired with temple jewellery and fresh jasmine, her look celebrated the elegance of South Indian bridal tradition while remaining deeply personal.

Beside her stood Yogin in a cream veshti and angavastram, dressed much like generations of men before him.

A Waterfront Taj Bekal Wedding

If the Muhurtham celebrated heritage, the North Indian wedding embraced romance on a grand scale.

Set against the tranquil backwaters of Taj Bekal Resort & Spa, the ceremony made full use of one of Kerala's most beautiful destination wedding venues.

The celebrations began with an energetic baraat, where dhol beats, dancing friends and joyful family members filled the waterfront lawns with colour and excitement.

Then the atmosphere changed completely.

Instead of making a traditional bridal entrance, Riva arrived across the water on a flower-covered raft. As petals floated around her, she slowly approached the mandap while guests watched in complete silence.

It was simple.

Unexpected.

And unforgettable.

Waiting beneath an elaborate floral mandap overlooking the water, Yogin watched her arrive against one of the most breathtaking backdrops imaginable.

Riva wore a blush-pink hand-embroidered lehenga by Anushree Reddy, while Yogin complemented her in an ivory sherwani. Together, they created a palette that felt soft and romantic against Kerala's lush green landscape and the dramatic floral installations surrounding the ceremony.

For us as photographers, this ceremony perfectly demonstrated why couples continue to choose a Taj Bekal wedding for destination celebrations. The property's expansive waterfront, tropical landscape and beautiful natural light create an environment where every photograph feels immersive without requiring elaborate staging.

An Intimate Anand Karaj in Bengaluru

The final chapter of the celebrations brought everyone back to Bengaluru for the Anand Karaj at Ulsoor Gurudwara.Unlike the grandeur of the previous ceremony, this celebration was deeply understated.

Yogin arrived on horseback wearing a navy sherwani embroidered in gold and a traditional Punjabi pagdi, while Riva covered her head gracefully as they sat together before the Guru Granth Sahib.Bound together by a single palla, they completed the four lavan surrounded by family and close friends.The ceremony was quiet, spiritual and profoundly moving.

It was a beautiful reminder that while every culture celebrates marriage differently, the meaning remains the same.
