Inside Sowmitha & Vasant’s Vogue-Featured Bengaluru Wedding | 1Plus1 Studio
A six-event wedding across Nandi Hills and Bengaluru, bringing together Tamil Brahmin traditions, contemporary bridal fashion, and a spectacular Moonlight Mela under the stars.
Featured in Vogue India, Sowmitha Amur and Vasant Kumar’s wedding was a celebration of a long-distance romance that grew across London and Singapore before bringing their families and friends together in Bengaluru. From intimate traditional ceremonies to a lively celebration with 500 guests, every event reflected a different facet of their story.
From an Inter-School Dance Competition to a Wedding in Bengaluru
Some love stories begin with a chance encounter, while others have roots in memories that go back much further. Sowmitha and Vasant’s story began with an inter-school dance competition, a detail that makes their journey together all the more special. Their relationship eventually grew across continents, with late-night conversations and shared playlists keeping them connected despite the distance.
In May 2024, Vasant proposed to Sowmitha in London, planning a surprise overlooking the city skyline with the help of her flatmate. Their journey then led to a multi-event wedding in Bengaluru, bringing together family, culture and celebration.
Six Wedding Events Across Nandi Hills and Bengaluru
Haldi at Manatheera, Nandi Hills
Nestled amidst the natural beauty of Nandi Hills, the haldi at Manatheera brought together vibrant colours, an easygoing atmosphere and plenty of playful energy. The celebration began with soft sunlight and colourful florals, creating a beautiful setting for the festivities to unfold. As the morning progressed, the mood shifted into something more spontaneous and lively, with water balloons, pichkaris and a poolside celebration adding a playful twist to the traditional haldi.
It was a joyful beginning to the wedding festivities, setting the tone for a celebration that balanced meaningful traditions with moments of unfiltered fun.
Sangeet at Naveraa Resort and Event Centre
The sangeet at Naveraa brought a sense of theatrical grandeur to the celebrations. Drawing inspiration from Heeramandi, the evening featured dramatic chandeliers and striking architecture, creating an atmosphere that felt both glamorous and immersive.
At the heart of the celebration were performances by the couple’s closest friends, making the evening as much about their relationships as it was about the spectacle. The performances brought together music, emotion and entertainment, turning the sangeet into a personal celebration of the people who had been part of Sowmitha and Vasant’s journey.
Traditional Tamil Ceremonies at Amita Rasa
The following morning, the celebrations moved to Amita Rasa for the couple’s traditional Tamil Brahmin wedding rituals. Set on the serene Ahaara lawns, the ceremonies offered a quieter, more intimate contrast to the exuberance of the previous evening.
Rooted in family traditions, the rituals brought together generations through familiar customs and meaningful moments. The celebrations also embraced the experience of a traditional South Indian meal served on banana leaves, adding another layer of cultural familiarity to the day.
The atmosphere was a reminder that, amid the many events and celebrations, the heart of a wedding lies in the rituals, relationships and traditions that give it meaning.
Moonlight Mela at Kalyani Amphitheatre
The Moonlight Mela at Kalyani Amphitheatre was one of the most distinctive celebrations of Sowmitha and Vasant’s wedding. Inspired by traditional kutcheris and the nostalgia of childhood fun fairs, the evening brought together music, familiar street-food favourites and playful activities beneath the night sky.
Guests could enjoy roasted peanuts and masala corn, try their hand at fairground games and soak in the lively atmosphere. The concept brought a sense of nostalgia to the celebration, creating an experience that felt less like a formal wedding event and more like a shared evening of fun with family and friends.
As IndoSoul took the stage, the energy reached its peak. With 500 guests dancing together beneath the stars, the amphitheatre became the setting for one of the wedding’s most memorable moments—a celebration of music, friendship and the joy of being together.
Muhurtham at Amita Rasa
The wedding ceremony at Amita Rasa centred on the natural beauty of its stone mantapa, providing a timeless setting for the couple’s traditional Tamil Brahmin muhurtham.
The ceremonies unfolded through meaningful rituals, including the kaashi yatra, maalai maatral, oonjal and the tying of the thaali. Each tradition carried its own significance, bringing together the couple and their families in a ceremony deeply rooted in cultural heritage.
Against the understated architectural setting, the focus remained on the rituals themselves and the emotions surrounding them. It was a moment of continuity between generations, bringing the wedding’s many celebrations back to the traditions at its heart.
The Final Evening at Nandi Highland
The final evening brought the wedding festivities to a close with cocktails and a plated dinner, creating space for guests to gather after several days of celebrations. Heartfelt speeches offered a moment to reflect on Sowmitha and Vasant’s journey, while the couple’s first dance marked the beginning of the evening’s more celebratory mood.
As the night progressed, music and dancing took over, carrying the festivities into the early hours. After days of cultural ceremonies, elaborate celebrations and shared experiences, the final evening brought everyone together one last time.
For Sowmitha and Vasant, it was a fitting end to a wedding that moved effortlessly between tradition and contemporary celebration—bringing together their families, friendships and shared history in Bengaluru.
Sowmitha’s wedding wardrobe moved between contemporary silhouettes and traditional craftsmanship. For the Moonlight Mela, she wore a cyan-blue raw silk lehenga by Nadenka, designed by Aisha Rao, with nature-inspired appliqué detailing.
For the muhurtham, handwoven silk saris from Sundari Silks and Srinivasa Silks in Chennai honoured her Tamil heritage. She closed the celebrations in a nude-and-silver crystal-embroidered lehenga by Label Naibah.
At 1Plus1 Studio, our approach to wedding photography and filmmaking is rooted in documenting celebrations as they unfold: the rituals, the relationships, the energy of a packed dance floor and the fleeting moments in between.
Sowmitha and Vasant’s wedding was a beautiful example of how six distinct events can come together to tell one cohesive story. From the landscapes of Nandi Hills to the traditional ceremonies at Amita Rasa and the celebrations at Kalyani Amphitheatre, each setting brought a different atmosphere to their wedding film and photographs.
We are delighted to see their celebration featured in Vogue India, a recognition of the people, details and memories that made their wedding uniquely theirs.
