I barely see shy reserved crying brides. I think the stereotype of the sobbing indian bride is slowly ebbing.
This is because women now leave home for hostels, workplaces in other cities or colleges abroad in much larger numbers. The wedding used to be the first separation from the family, it no more is.
Yet, even the most well traveled brides do get a pang of sadness when they a walk to the main wedding ceremony. This is especially poignant when the brothers carry a phoolon ki chadar (translates to blanket of flowers) over the bride as she walks in.
